San Diego was great. Cool and overcast grey, but great. Friday after arriving we went to a big outside mall to shop, saw a movie and ate at a little mom and pop Mexican restaurant that was fantastic! The next day we headed up to Oceanside to play at the beach. There was a "race across America" race that we got to watch runners and bikers pass by. The ocean wasn't too cold so we waded out and played in the waves. Here is where I started to feel really bad that the girls weren't with us. We were chest high in water and the waves were great. We would wait for the wave to start swelling and then try to swim the wave in. If the girls had boogie boards and could ride the waves in from here they would have had a BLAST! We definately will plan another beach trip so they can play, they would love it!
After playing, we walked down the pier and watched the fishermen. One guy caught a huge stingray. It was so heavy he couldn't pull it up from the water or it would break his pole. He had to walk it all the way down the pier to the shore, unhook it and let it go from there. Another guy snagged a starfish on his line. He said it was his fourth one. Their arms move so slooooow. We looked at it a bit and they threw it back. We browsed some surf shops on Oceanside Blvd and headed back to our hotel pool, swam a bit and spent some time in the jacuzzi that was feet from the sand of Mission Bay. We cleaned up and went to dinner, and hung out for the rest of the night. Sunday morning we were up, checked out, got breakfast and back on the road to Tucson.
Our hotel was wonderful (other than charging $22/day for parking...ouch!). It was a nice getaway, can't wait to do it again with the girls.
